BEFA (Broadly Experienced Foreign Architects)

In partnership with the Canadian Architectural Licensing Authorities (CALA) and the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB), the RAIC received a substantial grant in 2010 from Employment & Skills Development Canada (ESDC) in order to streamline the process for foreign architects to immigrate and work within Canada.

The Broadly Experienced Foreign Architect (BEFA) Program was a $2-million project that was developed into a bilingual program to properly assess BEFA candidates against pan-Canadian standards of competency for practice in Canada. The program launched in 2012.

Through its role as a rassembleur or unifier of the profession, the RAIC managed the overall project to ensure that funds were administered effectively and efficiently.
