The project to develop the Canadian Handbook of Practice for Architects (CHOP) 3rd Edition has begun. The delivery of the CHOP 3rd Edition on multiple platforms is planned for early Spring 2019. It will be available to all Canadian architects and interns free-of-charge.
The CHOP is the definitive reference for the architectural practice in Canada. It reflects the standard of care to be exercised by architects in delivering architectural services. It encompasses both the context of architectural practice as well as the many processes and tools in practice and project management. There are three ways that you can support the development of the next CHOP; a short survey, an in-depth survey, and a specific interest group submission.
The purpose of the two surveys is to support the development of content for the CHOP and build on the ideas of best practice in architectural services delivery. The short survey will take between 5-15 minutes to complete. It explores your use of the CHOP and how it can be improved. The in-depth survey probes overarching themes in architectural practice. The in-depth survey is anticipated to take 1.5 hours to complete, for which the participant will receive structured continuing education hours.
Specific Interest Group Submissions
The RAIC and provincial associations seek input from the Canadian architectural community to ensure that the CHOP 3rd Edition promotes best practices in architectural services delivery now and in the future. Since the CHOP 2nd Edition was released on 2009, there have been evolving changes in the design/construction industry, such as BIM, changing project delivery methods, and the demand for more efficient buildings that reduce our impact on the environmental. Groups in the architectural community with specific interests are encouraged to provide written statements on contemporary architectural practice and interests.
If your group would like to respond to this request for input, please contact Donald Ardiel, CHOP Editor-in-Chief, email@example.com, 613-241-3600, ext. 202 or Amanda Delorey, Program Officer, firstname.lastname@example.org, 613-241-3600, ext. 203.
The deadline for written submissions is February 26, 2018.
