The American Institute of Architects (AIA) honoured three leaders of the RAIC at the AIA Conference on Architecture in New York City last month. RAIC President Michael J. Cox, FRAIC, Hon. AIA, received the AIA Presidential Medal on June 23 at a reception and presentation hosted by AIA President Carl Elefante. The medal is an honour bestowed upon a president of a foreign national, regional or international professional society. It recognizes an established, mutually beneficial, and collaborative relationship and a record of providing valued services to the profession of architecture. RAIC Past President Samuel Óghale Oboh, PP/FRAIC, FAIA, was among 152 architects elevated to the AIA College of Fellows at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on June 22. The citation noted that Oboh was the first African-Canadian to lead the RAIC and said he “exemplifies the ideals of stewardship excellence by intensifying public advocacy… inspiring diversity, promoting good design and championing transformative initiatives for public good." Past Chancellor Barry Johns, FRAIC, Hon. FAIA received the Leslie N. Boney Spirit of Fellowship Award from the AIA College of Fellows at the Convocation Gala on June 23. Johns is the first international recipient of the award, which recognized his work as chancellor of the RAIC College of Fellows (2011 – 2017) to strengthen relationships and initiate projects of common interest between the RAIC and AIA. |
