Spreading the QBS message

Jim McKee, RAIC Executive Director, spent two days at the Canadian Public Procurement Forum in Quebec City distributing copies of the Fee Guidelines and explaining the importance of Quality Based Selection to some of the countries’ key decision makers.


Nuit Blanche supported by RAIC

The Shed Installation at Fort York for Toronto's Scotiabank Nuit Blanche designed by the _iterative Collective and sponsored in part by Architecture Canada | RAIC was a huge success. There were 800-1,000 people who passed through the Fort York site. The collective is composed of architecture graduates Andrew Chau and Jennifer Thorogood. Chau was on the Architecture Canada | RAIC Student Honour Roll in 2009.


The Architect owns the podium

In a refreshing departure from the norm, Architect Don Schmitt, FRAIC, participated in the opening ceremonies of one of his own buildings - speaking at the University of Waterloo’s opening of the new Engineering 6 Building at the end of October.


Competition takes strip malls head on

The National Post interviewed Scottish cultural geographer Merle Patchett on the competition she has launched with the University of Alberta's City Region Studies Centre to rethink the design of strip malls.

Strip Appeal” is an ideas design competition and travelling exhibit intended to stimulate and showcase creative design proposals by architects, designers, and the general public for the adaptive reuse of small-scale strip-malls in their communities.
