Architecture Canada | RAIC President Stuart Howard, FRAIC, joined Dr. Frits Pannekoek, President of Athabasca University at a reception Feb. 22 celebrating the approval by the Alberta Government of a Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Architecture at Athabasca University.


New RAIC membership portal under development

Architecture Canada | RAIC is developing a new RAIC membership portal. The new portal will provide more functional, easy-to-use, contemporary, and secure online membership experience. The new portal is scheduled for launch in summer of 2011.


2011 Festival of Architecture – Sponsorship Opportunities Available Now

Festival 2011 creating a buzz

The 2011 Festival of Architecture received coverage in Canadian Architect and the Daily Commercial News. Both agree Canadian architects have a lot to celebrate. The Festival, organized in partnership with AIBC takes place May 24-27, 2011 at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

2010 Governor General’s Medals in Architecture

On Jan. 31, 2011 his Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada (front row, fourth from right) presented the 2010 Governor General’s Medals in Architecture to recipients during a ceremony at Rideau Hall. Recipients were announced in April 2010.

Samantha Lynch wins Canada Council for the Arts' Prix de Rome

Former Architecture Canada Honour Roll student and University of Manitoba graduate Samantha Lynch is the winner of the Canada Council for the Arts' Prix de Rome in Architecture for Emerging Practitioners. Lynch will use the award to design and build cameras to study the relationship between human activity, the architectural dimension and the time connection between these two elements.

Denmark for Architects

The Danish Consulate General, The Danish Architectural Association and Architecture Canada | RAIC are once again this year offering a  Sustainable Architecture & Green building educational trip to Co2penhagen in May 2011.

The program offers the opportunity to meet and network architects, planners and developers, learn about Danish Architectural policy and experience sustainable and CO2 neutral buildings. The cost is $5,500 all inclusive. Registration is limited to 20 participants.

Call for Nominations for Chancellor

Members of the College of Fellows are invited to submit a nomination for the position of Chancellor of the College of Fellows.  The Chancellor is elected by Fellows from the list of nominations in the last year of the office of the current Chancellor. The Chancellor’s duties begin at the Annual General Meeting.

Details on the nomination process and role of the Chancellor are outlined in the nomination form [53 KB], which has been sent to every Fellow by mail. The completed nomination form and a 200-word statement from the candidate can be mailed, delivered or faxed to RAIC by March 25, 2011.

Cardinal awards collection to Carleton University

Douglas Cardinal, FRAIC, has bestowed his entire collection from 1984 onwards of drawings, plans, files, 3D models and other information to Carleton University.

D'Ambrosio architecture + urbanism Wins Wood Design Award

Victoria-based firm D’AMBROSIO architecture + urbanism  has won a Special Award from the Canadian Wood Council in the 2010 North American Wood Design Awards for its achievement at the Atrium, a high-density mid-rise office building in Victoria, BC.
