The Jurors commented that:

Jury comments on the winning submission – Hilary Pinnignton, McGill University

“The idea is very strong and is reflected with clarity throughout the work. The planning demonstrates the understanding of courthouse functionality and the complexities of circulation while integrating the idea of understanding the building. The challenges of a site in old Montreal have been addressed using both contrast and integration of context while portraying the building as an important public institution through its massing, materials and subtle articulation.”

“The grand symbolic courthouse steps within the building integrate an important element of courthouse architecture while contributing to the overall experience.”

Honorable Mention – Guillaume Morest, Université Laval

“This design is well sited and responds well to all the factors that contribute to a successful public building. The provision of an exterior space promotes good public design principles and makes a positive contribution to urban planning.

This plan responds well to the program and the overall design is heightened by the use of materials and the filtering of light internally and externally.”
