Jury Comments:

This project provides a unique adaptation of existing technology, using wood in a large scale institutional building. As the first hospital in Canada to gain approval to use wood as a primary structural element, this project is ground-breaking. Creators broke existing conventions by using locally available wood, a combustible material, and further enhanced the perception of a healthy building, particularly appropriate to a health care facility, by introducing skylights to permeate therapeutic areas with natural daylight. A Construction Management approach resulted in faster delivery of the project representing another innovation for this community.
